We Are What We Do
We Are What We Do is a global social change organization that aims to inspire people to use their simple, everyday actions to change the world.
We believe that it is not just politicians and business leaders who change the world but that each of us, through the hundreds of tiny actions we take every day, shapes the world we live in. The organization grew out of the work of the charity, Community Links (www.community-links.org) and a chance encounter between David Robinson, the charity’s founder and Eugenie Harvey, an Australian media and PR specialist. The combination of their different skills, energy, and passions resulted in a new and exciting way of communicating and engaging people in social change.
Our first project was the best-selling book, Change the World for Ten Bucks, originally produced in the UK through an extensive collaboration with more than 130 leading creative people, all of whom donated their time and talents to the project. Editions have now been published in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Spain, and Canada. Two sequels have been produced: Change the World 9 to 5 featuring actions we can do at work and Teach Your Granny to Text, a children’s book featuring actions by children, for children to change the world.
Other projects from We Are What We Do include the iconic “I’m not a plastic bag” bag, which played a significant role around the world in raising awareness about the damaging consequences of plastic bag usage. We also do extensive work with schools, businesses and community groups. Occasionally, we work with major brand partners on large scale initiatives such as a booklet with Virgin Atlantic aimed at challenging people about their behaviour when—and if—they travel.
The team at We Are What We Do is small: seven people working out of borrowed office space. However, through the support of tens of thousands of people all around the world doing and tracking actions, buying and sharing copies of our books, supporting our major initiatives, and sending us emails and letters of support, we are managing—little by little—to play our part in changing the world. We hope very much that you will join us.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must be the change we want to see in the world.”
